A routine cleaning and checkup does more than polish your teeth — it's the appointment most likely to catch a problem while it's still small and inexpensive to treat. A dental hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup that brushing alone can't reach, especially along and below the gumline. The dentist's exam that follows checks for cavities, gum disease, and early signs of issues like enamel wear or oral cancer.
Bitewing X-rays catch cavities forming between teeth long before they'd be visible or symptomatic. Twice-yearly visits are recommended because tartar begins reforming within months of a cleaning, even with good home care.
Skipping a cleaning doesn't just risk cavities — hardened tartar left in place is what eventually leads to the gum recession and bone loss seen in advanced periodontal disease. A cleaning today is a fraction of the cost and discomfort of periodontal treatment down the line.
Pocket depths around each tooth are measured to catch early gum disease before it progresses.
Bitewing imaging catches between-teeth decay invisible to a visual exam alone.
Early detection screening is built into the routine checkup, not an optional add-on.
Extra cavity protection is available in the same appointment when recommended.
Whatever the specifics of your case, the specialist you reach through us has handled it before.

No, X-rays are typically taken periodically, not at every single visit, to limit unnecessary exposure.
A regular cleaning addresses the tooth surface above the gumline; a deep cleaning treats below it for gum disease.
Bleeding gums often signal early gum inflammation, which a professional cleaning and better home care can address.
